Family Communication- Student Home Learning Plan

If you did not receive the email below, please contact mcoviello@ewsd.org with your current email address. We will add you to our parent email.

Dear Families,

We have been working the last few days to put together a comprehensive home learning plan for your child. There are so many considerations to make as we plan for your child's long distance education. Please remember that this is just as new to us as it is for you and your child.

Our goals are to provide learning activities that students can complete independently to maintain skills already taught. Since your child will benefit from daily engagement with activities we have set up a learning plan for each day of the week. In doing this we are aware that there are more demands on households right now with parents working from home or still going to work. Please know that we understand and do not want to overwhelm or stress out students or families. This learning plan is meant to be a guide.

Moving forward, we are unsure as to the pacing of each day. Each child is unique in how they work. One child may finish an assignment in 15 minutes whereas another will take 30. We will be checking in with your child to make sure the balance is there. We are also aware that things come up and not all work is able to get completed on a given day. We are flexible!

Setting daily goals and a routine for what your child will accomplish can help make tasks meaningful and build confidence.

We will hold office hours every morning from 9am to 10am Monday-Friday. This would be a good time for both students and parents to connect with questions or comments.

Again, we recognize that not all students will be able to complete these assignments. Any effort made to maintain these skills is appreciated.

Here is a link to the Home Learning Plan. We will share this link with students but wanted you to have access as well. The Home Learning Plan will be posted in Google Classroom in both Alling Homeroom and Coviello Homeroom.

In closing, be sure to take care of yourselves. We will miss our students in the coming weeks and look forward to seeing them soon.

Thank you for your support,
Rachel Alling & Melissa Coviello

Email Communication

If you did not receive the email below that went out this morning, please contact us so we can add you to our email list. ralling@ewsd.org  mcoviello@ewsd.org  We are trying to make sure we have a way to contact all families.

Dear Alling/Coviello Families,

We hope that you are safe and taking care during this challenging time. Rachel and I will be reaching out to each of you today to gather information for the district around your needs. Since we are not using EWSD phone numbers we will come up as an unrecognizable number. We will try reaching out again tomorrow morning between 9:00-10:00. If we do not reach you we will send a form for you to fill out. This information helps us know who needs access to computers, food etc.

There are so many considerations to make as we plan for your child's long distance education. Please remember that this is just as new to us as it is for your children. On Monday, March 23rd we will roll out our home learning plan.

Rachel and I will be available for parents and students daily Monday-Friday from 9:00-10:00 via email. Please reach out with any questions. Our emails are below and will also be provided on the daily assignment chart we will share with students on Monday.

Lastly, we'll miss seeing your kids in the coming weeks but hope that we're all back together soon.

Thanks for all of your support as we move forward together.

Best,
Melissa & Rachel

Science Investigation

Students have been busy in science investigating why the sun is the brightest star in Earth's sky. Students used flashlights to model and graph paper to record their data. Ask your child why the sun is the brightest star in Earth's sky. Below are pictures from our investigation.
