STEM Stations

      

Our classes had a fun morning of learning through STEM activities.

We had 4 stations:
Gondola Ride- Teams constructed an apparatus to transport as many AA batteries as possible across a span of 6 meters at one time. The winning team transported 12 batteries.

Tennis Ball Tower: Teams had to build a tower that could hold a tennis ball. The tallest tower measured 75cm from the base to the top of the tennis ball.

Mystery Box Challenge: Students worked on asking pointed questions to figure out what was in a mystery box.

Snap Circuits: Students built everything from a moving fan to speakers that played happy birthday.

         

 

 
 

 

   

 

Student Led Conferences March 22

Your child will be bringing home a Student Led Conference letter this afternoon. Please select your choices and return this letter by Friday. You can also access the letter below.

Plan B

When skating gets cancelled and students are disappointed you mix both classes up and give students a chance to enjoy each other's company. Students got to choose who to partner with and either played board games or helped make artwork for our tropical island door decorating. Below are pictures from our fun morning.

 

 

 

 

Reminders

Tuesday 2/19
Ice Skating: Just a reminder that Auch/Coviello classrooms are ice skating tomorrow. Since we are walking over, we talked in class about wearing snow boots and snow gear. Students will also need a helmet to skate. If any parent would like to join us you can meet us over at the rink around 9:45.

Wednesday 2/20
Northeast Region test on the states and capitals. Students should be reviewing their study guides.

Friday 2/22
Tropical island day! Dress in your best tropical clothing.
We are also looking for popcorn and juice for our movie that morning. If you can send in individual bags of popcorn with labels or juice boxes please email Mrs. Coviello or Mrs. Auch. We need 20 for Mrs. Auch's class and 18 for Mrs. Coviello's class.     mcoviello@ewsd.org  bauch@ewsd.org

Northeast Region Test

Our first Northeast Region test will be on Wednesday, February 20th. This change was made due to many students leaving early for vacation. Tests will normally be given on a Thursday.

Dance Off

Social Studies

A letter about our new geography unit will go home today for Mrs. Coviello's class and tomorrow for Mrs. Auch's class . Click on the link below if you want to preview the letter.
Our first states and capitals test will be on the Northeast region Thursday, February 21st. We will review how to prepare for this test in class and your child will receive a study guide that will be kept in their Fleming h.w. folder on Thursday. There is also a "Geography" tab on the main page of our blog in which you can access all of the study guides for the unit.

Important Reminders

Here are a few reminders for this week:

2/13 The Fleming Dance Off will be held at 2:00. Coviello's class is wearing green shirts and Auch's class blue shirts. In the event of a snow day, the Dance Off will be held on 2/14 at 2:00.

Be on the lookout for a movie permission slip coming home today. This needs to be returned by Friday this week.

Valentine's Day- Since we do not celebrate Valentine's Day as a school, students are allowed to bring Valentine's in and pass them out at the end of the school day. We ask that if your child is bringing things in that they bring them for everyone.

Language Arts Debates

Last month students had a wonderful time debating topics they had been researching. The topics included: pets in the classroom, extreme sports, homework, plastic bags, and zoos. Students did an amazing job gathering notes and preparing for their debate with reasons and evidence to support their position. Below are pictures of students debating.
