Fundraiser & Donations

Your child's Square 1 Art packet is coming home today. This is a fundraiser for our PTO, and the proceeds will benefit our students here at Fleming. Orders can be placed online or by the order form going home. Orders are due by November 21st so that they are in time for the holidays. 

Also, we are having a school-wide theme for the month of November all around giving back. Students are being asked to donate items (if they can) to Aunt Dot's Place. This is a local food shelf in Essex Junction. Below is a link to a wish list of items Aunt Dot's Place has requested. Feel free to donate what you can if you can. Items can be brought to the classroom where we have a large box to fill.

Job Interviews

As part of our economics unit, students are applying for classroom jobs and will go on a formal interview with a Fleming staff member next week.

In social studies, your child received a "How to Prepare for Your Interview" sheet.  We went over the sheet in class and will role play and prepare in the days to come. Students were given index cards in which they can use bulleted notes for their interview. Interviews will be held on November 5th, November 6th and November 7th. Students wrote down their day and time on a sticky note and in their assignment books. Interview dates are also posted in both classrooms.Our classes are very excited! Ask your child what day they are interviewing and who they are interviewing with.

Job Applications/Recommendations Due Friday

Just a reminder that job applications and letters of recommendation are due this Friday. Students can fill out a paper application or an online application in their Google Classroom. They also need to get a letter of recommendation from a family member that explains why they would be a good fit for the jobs they are applying for.
To model a real world experience, students are being held accountable to the due date, capitalization/punctuation, neatness and spelling with their applications.
Your child will learn today who they will interview with and when. We will also prepare for interviews by taking notes on index cards and role playing. The excitement is growing!

Today your child received their job application and a list of classroom jobs. We went over how to fill the application out step by step in class. Students have the option to fill out and return the paper copy or they may fill the application out online using Google Classroom. 

Students are also asked to include a letter of recommendation from a family member or neighbor. Letters of recommendation should convince the employer why the candidate is the best candidate for the position. You can either hand write or email the letter of recommendation to Mrs. Coviello. Job applications and letters of recommendation are due on or before November 1st.

In addition, students will go on an interview with a Fleming staff member. We will role play and review how to prepare for an interview in class. More to come on interviews soon!

Spruce Peak Field Trip

Both classes had an amazing time seeing Walk Two Moons at the Spruce Peak Performing Arts Center in Stowe. We soaked in the scenic foliage as we drove down and enjoyed a paper scavenger hunt along the way. Ask your child about the performance and experience.

Math Extra Credit

In math we have been learning how to round numbers into the thousandths place using a vertical number line. Ask your child to show you how to round 42.736 to the following places:

Sign off in your child's assignment book that they showed how to solve one of the problems above and they will receive extra credit and a Falcon Feather card for being responsible.
