Peace Corps Volunteer Visit

Today, our classes were visited by a peer's cousin, Scott, who is currently a Peace Corps volunteer in Uganda. Students got to learn about the 50 languages spoken, popular Ugandan food, dress and education. There is a fundraiser students can choose to participate in. Scott is trying to raise money to purchase computers for the school in which he is a Peace Corps volunteer. You can read more about this fundraiser here. If your child would like to donate money, they can give their money to Mrs. Coviello. Mrs. Coviello will make 1 donation online from our classes. Students can donate money up until June 12th. Any amount is helpful.

Below are pictures from our presentation. Ask your child what they learned from this experience.

We have fry!

Students have been working hard in science creating an ecosystem in which a mosquito fish, pond snail, elodea and duckweed all live. During recess today we had an unexpected surprise. One of the mosquito fish gave birth to a number of small fry. We were able to save and relocate 3 of the fry. Below are a few pictures.

EJRP Survey

$50 toward any EJRP offering!
Essex Junction Recreation and Parks is working hard to provide high quality and engaging programs for middle school youth at ADL. In our effort for continued improvement we have created a brief 3 minute survey for all parents of students who will be enrolled in ADL next year. Parents who fill out the survey and include their names will be entered into a raffle for $50 toward any EJRP program or offering! Responses will be accepted until 5/31/19.

Our Afterschool programs run one afternoon per week and includes transportation to and from Maple Street Park. Some examples of programs are laser tag, Fit2Excel classes, and rock climbing.

Vacation Expeditions are daily programs run during school breaks where you can sign up for as few or as many days as you liked based on need and interests. We spend our days going to places like Jay Peak or the Green Mountain Training Center, and get some hands on practice with life skills such as cooking.

Last Day of School- Please Read

5th Grade Parents PLEASE READ!
On the last day of school, Friday, June 14th, all 5th graders will be starting their day at ADL for Step Up Day. We will be there from 8:15-9:30 am. Students are expected to get there on their own, and we will return to Fleming by bus. (Please no scooters or bikes as they are not allowed on the bus)
Students should not arrive at ADL before 8:00 am since there is no supervision before that time. Mrs. Bigelow and other Fleming adults will be there to greet them.

If your student will not be going to ADL next year, please read!  We have several students who will not be attending ADL next year. There are a couple of choices for those students: 1) they may arrive at Fleming at 9:40 am once the buses return from ADL or 2) they may arrive at Fleming at 8:00 am as usual, and Mr. Ryan will have a nice breakfast with them.  Please call Mrs. Bigelow (857-7701) or Mrs. Aldrich (878-1381) with what your child will do that day.

SBAC Snack Sign Up Auch/Coviello

Below is a link to a Sign Up Genius. If you would like to send in a healthy snack for your child's homeroom during SBAC testing please sign up below. Please remember that we have food allergies in our class so things need to be peanut/tree nut free. We also need food to be labeled with the exception of fruit and vegetables. Thank you in advance!

We will be testing Monday-Thursday this coming week with make up testing on Friday. Please help your child prepare for testing by doing the following:

  • Get to bed early so they can get a good 8-10 hours of sleep each night
  • Eat a hearty breakfast. This will help their brains focus.
  • Limit screen time outside of SBAC testing as they will be using Chromebooks longer than usual.
  • Send in a water bottle so your child stays hydrated.
  • Students are able to chew gum during testing. If you would like to send gum in for your child this is optional.
