Interviews

As part of our economics unit, students are applying for classroom jobs and will go on a formal interview with a Fleming staff member.

In social studies, your child received a "How to Prepare for Your Interview" sheet.  We went over the sheet in class and will role play and prepare in the days to come. Students were given index cards in which they can have bulleted notes for their interview. Interviews will be held on November 12th, November 13th and November 14th. Both classes are very excited! Ask your child what day they are interviewing and who they are interviewing with.

Job Applications & Interviews

As you are aware, job applications and letters of recommendation are due on November 7th. The last part of the application process will be an interview. Many amazing staff members have volunteered to conduct student interviews.

Your child will find out tomorrow whether their interview is on Monday, November 12th, Tuesday, November 13th, or Wednesday, November 14th. Their day and time will be written in their assignment book.

We will be role playing and preparing for the interviews in class. You can help your child prepare for their interview by rehearsing the following:

• Practice a greeting (handshake, eye contact etc.)
• Ask your child to tell a little about who they are.
• Why are they interested in their three jobs?
• What are important skills they need for their three jobs?
• What should their body language look like throughout the interview?

Lastly, we ask students to dress the part for their interview. Students will be able to change in and out of clothing so they do not have to wear their interview outfit all day.

Privilege Time Fun!

We have been watching fun Rube Goldberg videos in class during snack time and students were inspired. During our recent privilege time, teams worked together to create this masterpiece. They were very proud! Great team work!

Job Applications

Today your child received their job application. We went over how to fill the application out in class. Students have the option to fill out and return the paper copy or they may fill the application out online using Google Classroom. Students are also asked to include a letter of recommendation from a family member or neighbor. Letters of recommendation should convince the employer why the candidate is the best candidate for the position. Job applications and letters of recommendation are due on or before November 7th.

In addition, students will go on an interview with a Fleming staff member. We will role play and review how to prepare for an interview in class. More to come on interviews...

Star Day

Our school-wide PBIS celebration was a success. Students loved Star Day. We had students dressing as star athletes, Star Wars characters and lots of clothing with stars. Below are pictures of Mrs. Auch and Mrs. Coviello's classes.

   

   

Math Exit Tickets

Your child will bring home an exit ticket today from our most recent work in math. An exit ticket is a quick way to check for understanding. If a student is still developing with a skill they will receive extra help and support until they are secure. Exit tickets will come home at least 2x's a month. Your child will always write in their assignment book when one is being shared.

Science-Physical Properties Investigation

We have been learning about the physical properties of matter in science. Students are in the midst of carrying out an investigation in which they conduct tests, make observations and measurements to identify materials based on their properties. Ask your child to explain what tests they have conducted so far. In the end we will support an argument with evidence, data, and a model.
