Streamable Learning

Today both classes were fortunate to participate in a Streamable Learning opportunity. We streamed the program live from South Carolina- Roper Mountain Science Center presents "Behind the scenes at Symmes Hall – Physical Sciences: I Have the Power".  
Here is what this program was about:
This program demonstrates the Law of Conservation of Energy, giving students a greater understanding of energy and its relation to the world we live in. Join us as we identify the sources of heat, chemical, and electrical energy and how this energy can be transferred from one form to another. Then experience how powerful this transformation can be!

Science Unit

Last week we finished up our Economics unit in social studies and have moved onto our next science unit Space Systems: Stars and the Solar System. Throughout this unit students will explore the following concepts:

• The sun is a star that appears larger and brighter than other stars because it is closer. Stars range greatly in their distance from Earth.
• The gravitational force of Earth acting on an object near Earth’s surface pulls that object toward the planet’s center.
• The orbits of Earth around the sun and of the moon around Earth, together with the rotation of Earth about an axis between its North and South poles, cause observable patterns. These include day and night; daily changes in the length and direction of shadows; and different positions of the sun, moon, and stars at different times of the day, month, and year 

Ice Skating Permission Slips

Happy New Year! We hope you all had a wonderful vacation. We are back into the swing of things here at school.
Today, your child will bring home an ice skating permission slip. The permission slip needs to be signed and returned by 1/11. Our classes will skate on Thursday, January 17th from 1:00-2:15. Helmets are required. This should be a fun event!

Domino Extravaganza!

Mrs. Coviello's class earned a class celebration and chose to create a class domino maze. Students worked in teams to plan how each section would connect to the next. They even included bridges and a domino wall. This was teamwork at its best!

Math Review Sheet

Today, your child will bring home a math review sheet. Every Monday we review concepts previously learned. Students work on the review sheet at the beginning of class on their own and then we go over the answers together. Ask your child to show you what we reviewed in class today.

Math Game

Students enjoyed practicing the traditional/standard multiplication algorithm while playing a fun game. Ask your child how we used technology to scan a QR code to check answers.
