In math we have begun our fraction unit. The beginning of this unit focuses on using money and clocks as models for adding and subtracting fractions. Using familiar units of money
and time (quarters, dimes, nickels and halves, thirds, and quarters of hours) helps students figure out how to add and subtract
fractions efficiently with and without finding common denominators. Students work with fractions, mixed numbers, and
improper fractions. This week we have begun using money models and will move on to clock models next week. We will then discuss which model works best for certain problems.
