Math Fraction Unit
In math we have begun our fraction unit. The beginning of this unit focuses on using money and clocks as models for adding and subtracting fractions. Using familiar units of money
and time (quarters, dimes, nickels and halves, thirds, and quarters of hours) helps students figure out how to add and subtract
fractions efficiently with and without finding common denominators. Students work with fractions, mixed numbers, and
improper fractions. This week we have begun using money models and will move on to clock models next week. We will then discuss which model works best for certain problems.

Math- Callie's Cake Pops
Description of Photos Below:
Earlier in the week students worked with partners on a word problem involving a real world scenario. Students had to show their thinking on paper in an organized way. Below are pictures of students conducting a gallery walk so they can look at each other's work. Students wrote a star about what a team did well with their math thinking and wish of what they could do to improve.
Extra Credit: Ask your child to explain Callie's Cake Pops and how they solved the problem. Sign off in their assignment book and they will receive extra credit in math.Wednesday, November 1, 2017
Interviews
As part of our economics unit, students are applying for classroom jobs and will go on a formal interview with a Fleming staff member.
In social studies today, your child received a "How to Prepare for Your Interview" sheet. We went over the sheet in class and will role play and prepare in the days to come. Students were given index cards in which they can have bulleted notes for their interview. Interviews will be help during the week of November 13th. Both classes are very excited!
