A letter about our new geography unit went home on Thursday . Click on the link below in case you didn't receive the letter. Our first states and capitals test will be on the Northeast region this Thursday, January 25th. We have been reviewing how to prepare for this test in class and your child has a study guide in their Fleming h.w. folder. There is also a "Geography" tab on the main page of our blog in which you can access all of the study guides for the unit.

Welcome Speedy!
Math- River Trail
In math students were introduced to a River Trail investigation. During the investigation they created a course and labeled landmarks on a poster in order to determine distance traveled. For example, if the trail was 30 kilometers long where would you place the shuttle bus stops if they stop every 1/5 of the trail. Below are pictures of students working on their posters during the investigation.

Math Fraction Unit
In math we have begun our fraction unit. The beginning of this unit focuses on using money and clocks as models for adding and subtracting fractions. Using familiar units of money
and time (quarters, dimes, nickels and halves, thirds, and quarters of hours) helps students figure out how to add and subtract
fractions efficiently with and without finding common denominators. Students work with fractions, mixed numbers, and
improper fractions. This week we have begun using money models and will move on to clock models next week. We will then discuss which model works best for certain problems.
